Finding a job you love is tough, primarily because there are so many other people who would love to have the exact same job. GO FOR A MORE MODERN APPROACH
Although a traditional written resume is almost always still requested as part of the hiring process, you may consider including a more modern video resume to help you stand out amongst other candidates. Video resumes are a great way to demonstrate the soft skills that don’t show through as strongly on a written resume. MAKE SURE THE RESUME MATCHES THE JOB
Make sure the resume you are sending out matches what the employer is looking for. If they want someone with executive experience and you have only worked in middle management, than you are probably going to be overlooked for the job. However, if your resume states you have run numerous projects for numerous big clients over the years, that shows you have executive experience, whether your business card said it or not. So you may want to tailor your resume to reflect this.
FOLLOW UP, A COUPLE OF TIMES
Following up is something that few applicants do, as many people don’t really love to confront their employer about hiring them. While it shouldn’t be a confrontation, a follow-up call or email will remind them as to who you are amidst all the other applications they have received or interviews they have done. Following up again, if they haven’t contacted you in a week or so, is another good idea, as it will again remind the employer and let them know you are still interested. Many employers also appreciate the interest from applicants and the confidence this displays.
BEFORE THE INTERVIEW, PREPARE
Be it a phone or in-person interview; prepare yourself to know as much as you can about the company you are applying to and the job you are applying for. Don’t be nervous but be knowledgeable. You are being hired as an asset to the company itself, so display yourself as such. Do some research into the company and suggest some skills and ideas to bring to the table.
